Dubai Creek – more than just a transport route
Getting a grip with Dubai modernity amidst the backdrop of sand dunes and tradition is hard for the tourist who hasn't set eyes on this ecstatic city. Visit this city and come across a nation striving so fiercely towards the future at a blinding pace. Home to the world's tallest tower, and soon to be the world's largest man made islands, Dubai shows little signs of slowing down. Shoppers will delight at mega malls and traditional souks that can be found around the city, whilst the culturally minded tourist will appreciate scratching beneath the glittery surface to find a nation that first found its footing in pearl diving. Adventure seekers can take heart in sandboarding the 'Big Red' sand dune, visit the numerous theme parks or ride the perfect rip tide on Jumeriah beach. Dubai caters to every type of traveller, providing just about every type of experience, with a warm welcoming smile.
One of the most scenic places in Dubai is the creek. The Dubai Creek is a natural seawater inlet that was a major trade and transport route for the nation. Today it allows visitors to walk, jog, rollerblade around it; take a tour of the city's modern and traditional landmarks or pick a restaurant along the wharf to enjoy some great cuisine. One of the most notable things on the Dubai Creek are the traditional boats called dhows that are docked along the wharf, which still traverse the traditional travel routes to India and East Africa.
Visitors also have the option of taking a water taxi called an abra across the Dubai Creek. The abras will take you from Deira to the souks, or from Deira to Burj Dubai. The creek is also home to a bird sanctuary, with 27,000 species that inhabit the area. For a truly unique experience, tourists can partake in a cruise on a decorated wooden dhow. This cruise will last 2 hours, includes a meal as well as entertainment in the form of music and a belly dancer; and what makes this trip truly exotic is that it takes place at night.
